Make Orange Green!
Easy ways that YOU can make a difference
and conserve on campus

People and their habits have the greatest single influence on energy usage on the Knoxville Campus.  Here are ways to help reduce that influence:

Lighting Tips

ü      Turn off incandescent lights when leaving the room or when they are not needed.

ü      Turn off fluorescent lights when they will not be used for 15 minutes or longer

ü      Make sure closet, kitchen, and lounge area  lights are turned off when the area is not in use

ü      When leaving campus for the day, turn off

                  Office lights

Computers
                  Printers
                  Any other energy using devices!

Computer Tips

ü      Turn off your computer monitor if you will not be using it, even for a short time (or set it on sleep).  For longer periods, turn off your computer entirely.  Your computer should be turned off before you leave campus EVERY NIGHT!

ü      Turn off computer peripherals (scanners, printers, etc.) when not in use.

ü      Turn off that screen saver!  Because of new technology, screen savers do not actually save energy unless they turn off your screen or back light of your laptop.

Energy Use

ü      Try to cut down on peak energy use during peak times ( 11am-6pm ).  Energy use costs more during this time!

Water Tips

ü      Report leaky faucets to 974-5346

Air Conditioner and Heater Tips

ü      If a room has an individual room air conditioner such as a window unit or a heater, turn it off when one no one is present

Other Energy Concerns

ü      Report all energy concerns to 974-5346
