Make Orange Green (Power) Challenge

For the 5th year residence
Halls will compete against each other to see which hall is the best at
Making Orange Green!!
Competition Dates: October 5th – Nov 2nd, 2009
Halls** will compete in:
• Programs
• Of
• Water Use
• Electricity Use
• Recycling
**All scoring will be based on per capita recording to make scoring
fair.
The winning hall will be announced on
Tuesday, Nov 3rd.
The winning hall will receive:
1- Bragging Rights
2- The Make Orange Green Challenge trophy- “MO Green”
3- The RAs and directors in the winning
hall will get a catered meal from Moe’s
Point System
For each of the 4 weeks in October, recycling totals will be
recorded, electric and water meters will be read, and reports from RAs
on environmental programs will be tallied from each of the 11 Residence
Halls on the main campus(North and South Carrick are combined for this
competition).
The Hall with the most points at the end of the competition
wins.
Here’s how the points will be awarded each week:
Programs Of Conservation
Programming will be based solely on straight points.
Bulletin Boards = 1 point for each week they are up
RA-Floor Program = 3 Points
Hall Program = 11 Points
To receive these points, email a picture (if possible) and a description
of the event or bulletin board to
recycle@utk.edu as soon as it
happens.
Water Conservation
11 Points will be awarded EACH WEEK to the hall
that uses the LEAST amount of Water per capita. 10 points will be
awarded for 2nd place, 9 points for 3rd
place on down to 1 point for 11th place.
Energy Conservation
11 Points will be awarded EACH WEEK to the hall that uses the
LEAST amount of energy per capita. 10 points will be awarded for 2nd place,
9 points for 3rd
place on down to 1 point for 11th place.
Recycling
11 Points will be awarded EACH WEEK to the hall
that recycles the MOST per capita. 10 points will be awarded for 2nd place,
9 points for 3rd place on down to 1 point for 11th place.

Programming Ideas for RAs
Be sure to take photo(s) of the event and send with an explanation of the event via email to recycle@utk.edu to get points for your hall. Host a CD/Game Exchange – place unwanted CDs, games, etc. in big trash bag; each person who donates an item gets to select an item on a 1-for-1 basis. Create a Bulletin Board – create a bulletin board that promotes the MOG Challenge Host a Recycled Fashion Show – hold a competition to create fashion items out of recycled products (cardboard, paper clips, etc.). Appoint a judge to determine which design is best. Hold a ‘Green Games’ or ‘Eco-Olympics’ – create fun games from recycled materials. GAME IDEAS: Go Bowling with plastic bottles- Instead of bowling pins, use some 1-or 2-liter plastic bottles and a ball. Kick the Can- You never knew this game was recycling! Recycle Toss- Shoot your recyclables into the bin to score. Capture the flag in the dark- Turn off all the lights to save electricity and play capture the flag- or other games- Do it in the dark! Have a Recycled Paper Airplane Toss Competition- Have a Recycled Art Competition- similar to the fashion show, only people create things they don’t have to wear. Have a Poster Contest with Environmental Themes- Appoint a judge and give out some recycled prizes- go to Goodwill or Salvation Army to get them. Have a “Switch Your Thinking” Pledge Drive- Get the cards from us and have your residents pledge to Switch their Thinking. The 4 commitments fit perfectly into the competition Hold a Q&A session- Ask and answer questions about ways residents can meet the POWER Challenge. | And the Winner is . . . | ||
|
They scored the most points in our Make Orange Green POWER Challenge
(Spring 2009),
and brought home the trophy! The trophy will be engraved with the name
of the hall and will move year to year with the competition. They also
were awarded a basketball signed by Coach Bruce Pearl that the hall will
get to keep. |
