General Notices:
IMPORTANT - CAMPUS WIDE STEAM OUTAGE
A campus wide steam outage has been scheduled to begin Thursday May 15th at 12:01 AM and end Friday May 16th at 11:59 PM. Steam is used for heating and domestic hot water as well as to operate sterilizers autoclaves and some cooking equipment. During the outage there will be no steam providing heat for these and other related activities. This outage is necessary to allow for repairs to campus steam piping and valves and well as perform related work at the Steam Plant.
A natural gas outage has been scheduled for Dabney-Buehler (entire building) beginning Friday May 9th at 5:00 PM and ending Friday May 9th at 10:00 PM. The purpose of the outage is to repair gas lines.
Stokely Management Center Plaza (3/10/08)
Due to construction requirements for work around the edge of the building the Stokely Management Center plaza will not be available for planned activities during spring and summer semesters. This unavailability will last until approximately the end of August 2008. Arrangements will be made to allow student access to G2 and G4 for classes but the plaza will not be available for functions such as lunch and dinner or other gatherings.
Questions should be directed to Bryan Hopkins at 4-4052 or 246-8506 or via email to bryanh@utk.edu
Andy Holt Avenue Road Closure
The completion of the Glocker project requires the closure of one lane of Andy Holt Avenue (Volunteer Blvd to Phillip Fulmer Way) for the period beginning March 14 2008 through July 31 2008. Andy Holt currently carries two (2) lanes of westbound traffic. This closure will reduce Andy Holt to one (1) lane of westbound traffic for the duration of 2008 Spring semester. Upon completion of this work Andy Holt will reopen to two (2) lanes of traffic.
Change in Contract Cleaning
For the first time in more than 20 years the campus will change cleaning contractors for all academic and support buildings except for those being cleaned by in house personnel. This change will take place today August 1 2007.
The process of transitioning to a new contract cleaning provider is an exciting opportunity and we look forward to making the transition as easy as possible.
Over the course of the next few weeks our new contractor will be putting their system in place across campus. While we anticipate a smooth transition there will likely be some issues along the line. We ask that you please bear with us as minor problems are resolved. If there are any major issues affecting your areas during this transition please do not hesitate to contact Building Services at 974-5107.
Again thank you in advance for your patience as we make this important switch. We are excited to have this opportunity to better serve you.

Heating & Air Conditioning:
A partial air conditioning outage for the office area only of the Middlebrook Building has been scheduled to begin Monday May 12th 2008 at 8:00am and end Tuesday May 13th 2008 at 5:00pm. The purpose of the outage is to install a new cooling tower.
Change-over from Cooling to Heating: Department of Facilities Services personnel perform required changeover from air-conditioning to heating in the Fall. Because of the equipment installed throughout the campus buildings must be changed over separately. The Facilities Services performs the changeover on the basis of priorities established to:
1) maintain required temperatures to protect equipment
and research in progress and
2) serve the greatest number of individuals and activities.
Heating changeover may not begin until outside temperature has dropped to at least 50 degrees F. for three consecutive days.
Temperature projections are also considered. The wide swings in temperature during the Fall of the year have made this policy necessary.
Special problems or hardships with this policy should be discussed with the Executive Director of the Facilities Services (208 Facilities Services Building 974-2178).
If you have other questions or concerns feel free to contact us at energyinfo@utk.edu.
