Confidential Material Recycling

As of July 2006, UT Recycles will no longer offer confidential material recycling.

Two other methods for disposal DO exist on campus:

Records Management will pick up and recycle confidential material at a cost of $2.50 per box. Call 974-6328 or email rmrequests@tennessee.edu. They usually pick it up the same day or the following day.

“Shred-It” Disposal

The State currently has a contract (SWC No.121) with Shred-It to shred onsite all confidential material. Shred-It provides a 95- or 35-gallon container and empties the contents on a scheduled basis (as often as weekly, or as infrequently as every 8 weeks). Shred-It moves the container from the department outside to the shred truck where material is shredded. Documents are shredded to a size of 1/8 by 1/8 (the standard required by DOE). Shred-It then returns the container to the department with an invoice and a certificate of destruction. Departments will be responsible for covering all shredding costs ($25 for emptying a 95-gallon container and $10 for emptying a 35-gallon container). Shred-It assumes full liability for secured documents when material is removed from the building. For more information Shred-It at 671-8488.
