Residence Hall Light Bulb Exchange on January
31st, 2008 from 5:00 - 6:30 pm in ALL residence Halls!
After learning about climate change during the Focus The Nation
events across campus on Thursday, January 31st, 2008, students can
return to their residence halls and do something to make a
difference. From 5:00 - 6:30 pm that night, residents can exchange
their standard (incandescent) light bulbs for low-energy compact
fluorescents -- for free! The new bulbs will be available at tables
in the building lobbies. This exchange will help kick off the Make
Orange Green Challenge in the Residence Halls that begins the
following day, February 1, 2008 and continues until March 31, 2008.
Why make the switch? Compact fluorescent light bulbs use only 13
watts to put out as much light as a 60 watt incandescent bulb-
that's less than 1/4 the energy! Compact fluorescent bulbs also last
10,000 hours, which is 5-10 times longer than traditional
incandescent bulbs. Last semester, students in residence halls
exchanged enough light bulbs to save over 62,000 kilowatt hours of
electricity, and offset over 93,000 pounds of emissions during the
year!
(And did we mention it's free?)
