Facilities Services

Frequently Used Tools:

Utilities

The Utilities component of the Facilities Services Department oversees new work, remodeling, and major repairs of utility infrastructure. These activities are often interrelated and performed by our craft shops: Air Conditioning Services, Electrical Services, and Plumbing Services. Utilities is more than routine work such as changing air conditioning filters, replacing ceiling tiles, or doing custodial services, all performed by Preventive Maintenance and Building Services. Utilities work is specialized and requires specialized workers and equipment to match.

Utility projects usually do not exceed two million dollars. However, high cost projects include the installation of utility connections to new buildings which are under construction. Much of our work is repairing or renovation of existing facilities in support of new or changing programs on campus. Occasionally, existing facilities are acquired and need reconfiguration such as the Metron Building purchased in 2006.
